    Is Love Really a Polaroid?

Is Dan using Polaroid as a metaphor for love? That love only lasts for a moment, just like a snapshot? Love is fleeting? Love is an old and outdated idea just like the camera he named the song after! Or he could also be saying that pictures are great to look back on but never a good as the actual moment itself. I have heard him urge people time and again to live in in the moment!

It is amazing if you can laugh at yourself!

I suppose I choose to look at it this way! That we learn from the negatives! It is O.K. to question yourself. It is O.K. to sometimes feel a void in your chest. That's when the rain pours heavy and falls upon your head just like the song describes.
Dan describes the person he loves as being an opera always on time and in tune. And he feels like the color of "Boom." I think the sadness and darkness in the songs are usually tempered with messages of hope. Please don't forget the optimism. "One more time gotta start all over." Also the fact that the band takes a nice picture.

    can't choose one!
That's a great interpretation! I spent so much time trying to figure out what the real meaning of this song is...
There are also the parts where Dan sings 'I am a head case, I am the color of boom' and all these sentences that begin with 'I'm...'. By this I think he tries to tell that he is many, many things at the same time, but all these things are actually bad. He is harming others, causing concerns, disturbing good order, unconsciously; yet he is trying to be as good as the ones he loves.
This is a pretty dark interpretation, I know^^... especially when the music behind sounds like a lullaby (by the way, did you know that Dan had the idea of the melody while trick-and-treating with Arrow?) !!

I think he's saying that if you look at love from the outside it all looks perfect and wonderful but when you are in love is not always picture perfect. Everyone has faults.

Possibly, it could mean that pictures always show beautiful moments, but by looking at one it can never reveal the story behind it, the pain and the joy and the struggle. Pictures can only show what you choose them to show, fleeting moments. Maybe the song portrays how pictures can show him in these aspects, but by looking at the photo you can never truly find his story.
Break! This! Curse! HA HA HA!

I agree with everyone, I also don't think it's a sad song necessarily.

In a picture you (or he) never appears to be a reckless mistake, midnight talker, alley walker.... a picture only tells a part of the memory- good or bad.

"I'm a first class let down, I'm a shut up sit down..... I am a head case, I am the color of BOOM!"
