    Interpret the lyrics! Trouble

Imagine Dragons like to leave many of their lyrics open to interpretation, and since that is the case they are like art, the lyrics can mean multiple different things depending on the difference of perception. We would love it if you shared your thoughts on specific lyrics in the vast variety of Imagine Dragons poetry.

There is not right or wrong answer, just your very own way of feeling them.

The lyrics of the song "Trouble" are very interesting.

Specifically, the upbeat tempo makes you initially believe this is a happy song, but if you start listening to the lyrics closer, you see it has a much more deeper intent. What do you think the lyrics mean? How do they make you feel?

    Trouble
Oh quiet down, I've had enough
I guess it's now or never
I've been around, I've settled up
    I'll bolt soon or later

I took a photograph of me
    When I was only nineteen
I looked a little lost at sea
I keep trying to find me

    So pray for me brother
    I need redemption
    I'm just a man
    A man on a mission
    I want no trouble [x4]
    Pray for me sister
    Give me a mention
    I got no faith
    And, oh, did I mention
    I want no trouble [x4]

Oh pack it up, and hit the road
    And only take my lighter
I've seen the glitz, I've seen the glam
But I prefer the pay dirt

I took a photograph of me
    When I was only nineteen
I looked a little lost at sea
I keep trying to find me

    So pray for me brother
    I need redemption
    I'm just a man
    A man on a mission
    I want no trouble [x4]
    Pray for me sister
    Give me a mention
    I got no faith
    And, oh, did I mention
    I want no trouble [x4]

Oh pack it up, and hit the road
    And only take my lighter
I've seen the glitz, I've seen the glam
But I prefer the pay dirt

Maybe you could save my soul
Cause of all the things that I don't know
Maybe you could save my soul
Cause of all the things that I don't know

    So pray for me brother
    I need redemption
    I'm just a man
    A man on a mission
    I want no trouble [x4]
    Pray for me sister
    Give me a mention
    I got no faith
    And, oh, did I mention
    I want no trouble [x4]

    You didn't share your interpretation!?
    I hope you do!
I think this song is about wanting to get away because it speaks of wanting to bolt and feeling lost at sea.
But at the same time wanting to stay in spite of feeling lost.
You also have to remember that Dan Reynolds did do missionary work and he literally was a man on a mission.
I think it is extremely honest for Imagine Dragons music to communicate that they have the same emotions and doubts as all of us do. I think it is a brilliant song. It was amazing to see Trouble live because the lights just shot off of the stage in rapid fire. The band orchestrated the story and Dan danced and acted it out and punctuated the song by dropping to his kness.
"Maybe you can save my soul from all the things that I don't know?"
How nice to end on a positive note.

    I wonder about the phrase
"... Pray for me brother ... Pray for me sister ..."

Dan is a religious man, how deeply he had fallen in his belief, that he couldn’t even pray for himself?
He asked his family for help, that they pray for him, for his soul?

At that time, he wrote this text, how much fear must he have had, to lost his believe in God, to lost his soul?

We don't know, which trouble he meant, but I hope, he overcame these problems.

At concerts you can see him often in prayer-pose on his knees.

I think the song is about finding your path in life and faith, not only in yourself but in others. You could look at it in a religious way and feel that the song means to pray for your friends, strangers, internet friends, coworkers, family members, ect...or your "brothers and sisters" who have no faith- hence the "I need redemption, I have no faith", it is not that they are not good people (I want no trouble) it is just that they have not found God yet.

It also could be about just giving up everything you have (only take my lighter, I've seen the glitz / glam) and going for something.... it could be a trip, leaving home, leaving for the military, just leaving it all---- for a new life, and having the guts to do so and find yourself. Asking those you left behind to pray for you.

That is how I interpret it
