🎵I would rather stay here
🎵Where the flowers bloom and the sun, it shines
🎵It shines on you
🎵It lights up your eyes
🎵Sitting here all by ourselves, counting all the people
🎵They ask us why
🎵Gather all around and stare on down
🎵Into the dark, dark pit
🎵Don't go, please don't go
🎵But they step on in, they fall all in
🎵They walk all over you
🎵One step at a time they all walk in a line down a false, false hope
🎵I would rather stay here
🎵Where the flowers bloom and the sun, it shines
🎵It shines on you
🎵It lights up,your eyes
🎵I would rather stay here
🎵Where the moon, it glows
🎵Soaring doves and falling crows
🎵Laughter is the only sound here
🎵If I had one wish, I'd fill up that pit
🎵I'd fill up that pit
🎵I'd cry till it filled up to the brim
🎵You'd swim to the top, and I'd grab your hand
🎵How can I, how can I convince you to stay
🎵Where all the flowers bloom and the grass, it sways?
🎵And the rain it pours and the waves all roar
🎵All the trees they grow and the falling crow
🎵Soars down into that dark cold pit
🎵And you follow it in
🎵Oh, you follow it in
🎵I would rather stay here
🎵Where the flowers bloom and the sun , it shines
🎵It shines on you
🎵It lights up your eyes
🎵I would rather stay here
🎵Where the moon, it glows
🎵Soaring doves and falling crows
🎵Laughfter is the only sound here
🎵If I had one wish, I'd fill up that that pit
🎵I'd fill up that pit
🎵I'd cry til it filled up up to the brim
🎵You'd swim to the top, and I'd grab your hand
Imagine Dragons
The Pit
Consider that Dan Reynolds was only 21 years old when this song was released on the Speak To Me (EP)
I am continually impressed by his wisdom and maturity. Talk about being a man on a mission!
The lyrics are beautiful, touching, thought provking, even haunting.
When I think of the year Dan Reynolds was born I recall Michael Jackson touring the world for his album, Bad. That same year, George Michael became famous for I Want Your Sex that featured lyrics like, "What's your definition of dirty baby?"
Pop songs sure can be catchy and fun. My favorite music though is music that tells a story. Dan Reynolds has also said that he does not like to explain his songs but would rather leave the interpretation up to the listener.
I am hoping he expands upon the Tweet from Imagine Dragons this week that simply read, "Secrets."
Sometimes even the most dedicated fan could use a hint!
