Here's to my yesterday - Imagine Dragons in Buffalo, NY!

Night 22 of the ƎVOLVE tour was Buffalo, New York. And that also happened to be the show I went to last night with my dad and brother!
I first listened to Imagine Dragons three years ago this month. Look how far I've come

My experience seeing Imagine Dragons live for the first time (a bit long):

I live in Hamilton, Ontario (45 minutes from Toronto), so we had to cross the border into Buffalo. During the drive to and from Buffalo, we listened to all three Imagine Dragons albums (as well as Parachutes by Coldplay, which I brought to annoy my brother!) It was about an hour and a half to the border, and then 5 minutes to the KeyBank Center when we arrived. But coming back took half an hour just to leave the parking lot and then another hour of waiting behind all the other cars crossing back into Ontario, so we ended up crossing the border at 1 am. We didn't arrive back in Hamilton until 2:20, and then had to wake up 4 hours later! I should really go to sleep...
Our seats were in the very final row of the highest section. My brother and dad both hate heights! I wasn't so much afraid as awed by the sheer size of the stadium - we could see the entire thing.
The concert opened at 7:30 with K.Flay, who is absolutely amazing live, followed by Grouplove at around 8:30 (I guess?), who I'd never heard before but sounded equally amazing. They played what they said was a new song, and covered a bit of David Bowie near the end of their set.
I won't soon forget the way the cheering swelled up when the lights dimmed. The stadium looked beautiful in the dark, when only a few lights glowed. It was like some sort of different plane of existence. The introduction was just as surreal as when I saw it in the Quebec livestream, ending with an ominous "And no one quite knows why." Then we saw the band for the first time, illuminated like gods in the rainbow lasers for the beginning of I Don't Know Why. That was the first time I've ever seen Imagine Dragons not through a screen. It's very weird to think that up until that point, to me they only existed on a screen. I think Dan's voice sounds just slightly higher in person than it does on video! Or is that just me?
Dan gave a speech like he usually does before It's Time. He said that people try to put fear in our hearts, to keep us from coming here. People try to put fear in their hearts to go on that stage every night. But we all came together that night, and let go of everything that tried to divide us. I can see why he always says this before It's Time, it's such a beautiful message to say that people will try to divide and change you, but you don't have to let them.
Dan also spoke before Demons, about ending the stigmatization of mental health and therapy. I am forever grateful for Dan Reynolds and how he speaks so openly about depression. As someone who almost certainly suffers from depression, anxiety, and ADHD, it means so much to hear someone say that I'm not alone and that it's always worth it to stay alive. Dan talked about feeling empty, or grey, or numb, saying that people with depression would understand what he meant, and I understood perfectly. It's been so strange listening to songs recently and suddenly realizing I know what it means to be a lost cause or a colourless sunrise, because that's what I feel like. I owe so much to Evolve for being such a hopeful album, because listening to sad songs when you're sad doesn't make you feel better, no matter how much you relate to it, it just holds you where you are. Hopefully I can get to the point where everything seems beautiful again, but I'm still in the middle of this right now. But I'm doing better, so that's good.
Demons is a beautiful song live. You can hear everyone singing along, and the lights go low and people bring out the lights on their phones. To someone who lives in a light polluted city, it looked like a sky full of stars.
When the Dragons went down to the b stage, Dan introduced the band and said Ben was from a small town in North California. "There's about four of us up there," Ben said. He added, "It's called Benville." Then Dan told everyone that three of them were named Daniel! "Our parents all had very boring taste in names." Then he introduced Elliot.
The phone lights came out again when they played I Won't Back Down as a tribute to the great Tom Petty. A lot of people sang along. They also played Bleeding Out and Dream (with a bit of The Fall blended into the end!) before going back to the main stage.
When they played Believer, the audience sang as loud as Dan and his mic!
The final song they played was Radioactive, which is fantastic live. No matter how much people have been paying attention to Believer or Thunder or I Bet My Life or any other song, this is still going to be the song they'll always be known for, and I think that's pretty great in a way. And there's something really funny about someone mentioning the word "radioactive" at all and at least three people singing "I'm radioactive, radioactive!" The song has become legendary.
There's so many other things I wanted to say but I don't remember everything!! This is probably long enough already though. I'm also a bit tired..

Your time will come if you wait for it, if you wait for it. It's hard, believe me, I've tried.

This is what I bought when they let us in! It cost 45$ American which is more like 60$ Canadian but the shirt and patch are both gorgeous so I don't regret it!
